Musical Alphabet - R

Three "R"-themed tracks for your listening enjoyment

Reverend and The Makers - "Heavyweight Champion of the World"

Reverend and The Makers are an indie-pop band from the UK that received some success with the following track, which reach #38 on the UK singles chart.  They are best known for opening for Oasis and for The Red Hot Chili Peppers in that band's concert in Glasgow.

Kate Rusby - "Old Man Time"

Described by The Guardian as "a superstar of the British acoustic scene," Kate Rusby is unknown to many listeners here in the States.

Layah Jane - "Reverence & Ridicule"

Yet another unknown singer to US listeners (she's from neighboring Canada), Layah Jane is best known in the states for having covered Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" for a Dove soap commercial.

And a bonus...

Josh Ritter - "Girl In the War"

Another folk singer (this time American) who is largely unknown even in his own country.

  1. I like the depth in Kate Rusby's voice.

  2. @Angela I really do too. "T" is going to feature three female artists (I think you'll really like the one who is accompanied by piano.) And "Y" will have one of the best new blues artists that I've seen come along in a long time - not only can the girl sing but she can play guitar like she was born with it in her hands.
